Conversations:
Observing a Year
April 1, 6:30 pm
We live in a world built from a web of complex relationships and multiple intelligences. We are not at its center but a part of an inconceivable greater whole. Please join and share with us how you participate in this web of interdependence and contribute your practices to help us build a More Than Human World library. In this first of four quarterly workshops, we are celebrating the launch of the archive and engage participants through storytelling and a collective ritual.
About the Artists:
Sobia Ahmad and Monroe Isenberg, are interdisciplinary artists working at the intersections of art and social engagement. Through performance, installation, and new media, they investigate relationships between human experiences and the natural world. Their collaborative body of work explores a shared interest in ecology, spirituality, and their Islamic and Jewish mystical traditions and ways of knowing. Through contemplative repetition, they reimagine rituals that approach communion with land, place, and the invisible.
Their project Conversations: Observing a Year percolated out from their experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic, decolonizing efforts, and the climate crisis. Through their explorations in the confluence of these spheres, they saw a need for a tool that could bring together different practices, beliefs, ideas, and stories about an interdependent world.
In response, they are created a participatory, ecologically-focused, socially engaged digital library that collects submissions of individual experiences, practices, and wisdom(s) about A More Than Human World. Their intention is to organize the collections and form a ‘pluriverse’ of stories that help make meaning in this more-than-human world. The project is an effort to collectively build a space that engages in healing practices, democratizes art-making, and is a resource for learning.
This workshop is an invitation to learn new and evolving languages that enable greater participation in the world around us.
